The workspace and daily flow

Workspace regions

RegionPurpose
Title bar Open, Fetch, Pull, Push, and repository actions.
Left sidebar top History, refresh, branch filtering, and column selection.
Left sidebar bottom Selected-commit actions and stash controls.
Center bottom Working changes, staged changes, and commit message.
Right sidebar Source-control summary, refs, and current source tree.

A normal change-to-push sequence

  1. 1 Open a repository and refresh if another tool changed it after VGit loaded.
  2. 2 Select a change to read its diff; compare index and working-tree views for partially staged files.
  3. 3 Tick paths and stage them with the row or section control.
  4. 4 Enter a commit message and commit the staged snapshot.
  5. 5 Fetch, use fast-forward-only pull if needed, then push; VGit sets an upstream when the branch has none.

Useful keyboard controls

  • Up and Down move through commit history.
  • Cmd+1 opens the selected change as a diff; Cmd+2 focuses a source tab.
  • Cmd+, opens Settings and Escape closes the active panel.
